Project Summary
We plan to develop a conceptual model of metal movement in Shield watersheds and lakes. The model would integrate estimates of metal speciation and fractionation into a fate and transport framework. The model would provide critical linkages between atmospheric deposition of metals, metal release from weathering, uptake by biota and the resultant concentrations in terrestrial and aquatic systems. A second phase of the project (if funded) would involve testing the model on a site-specific basis using watersheds and lakes in the Sudbury area for case studies.
